Mr P Sidharthan (CEC Alumni - '97 batch) receiving the "Scientist of the year" award from our defence minister Mr. A K Antony at a function held on Oct 1st 2012. This is a remarkable achievement for CEC and one that has evoked a feeling of immense pride from students, Alumni and staff alike. Shri P Sidharthan, is a senior Scientist in Microwave Tube Research & Development Centre (MTRDC), DRDO, Bengaluru. He received this award for his outstanding contributions in the design, development and product ionisation of state-of-the-art Electronic Power Conditioners (EPCs) for Microwave Power Modules (MPMs).

Congratulations to Mr.Anirudhan Adukkathayarn (S5C) for participating and winning the FIRST PRIZE in the 55444 Hackathon, an event sponsored by BlackBerry and co-organised by Startup Village, Cochin was hosted at INNOZTechnologies, Bangalore The event was on 14th July 2012, attended by 120 Hackers, out of which 23 were from Kerala, supported by Startup Village, including 6 from College of Engineering, Chengannur. The FIRST prize for the event, Cash Prize of Rs:35000 each were shared by Mr.Anirudhan Adukkathayar(S5C) and Mr.Shankar.S from Bangalore. App Developed by Arjun Komath of College Of Engineering was qualified into top-10 apps. The other Students attended the event were Akhil.S (S5C), Kevin Richu Cheriyan(S5C), Titto Jose(S5D) and Shahul Hameed (S5D)

Congratulations to Mr.Jerry J Martin(S7B) & Ms. Linda Ann James (S7D) for winning the FIRST Consolation prize in the TECHTOP 2012, an event sponsored by Degree Controls Inc.,USA, KSCSTE, Technopark , Thiruvananthapuram. The Project named Speech-Bee is a portable communication device designed for the speech-impaired. It is basically a text-to-speech converter with which they can make phone calls too. It pronounces the desired text typed into it as well as displays it. There are two language modes: English and an Indian language (Malayalam). The pitch, tone, speed and volume of the speech can be varied so that the user can express his emotions. Male and female voices are included. Voice calls can be made using three methods: through GPRS, pairing with mobile phone via Bluetooth or through telephone land-line. The receiving section can hear the text typed by the user and the user can hear the voice of the other person through the earphone. The device can be powered up using rechargeable batteries or via adapter.
